Drip is a great way to make coffee if you have counter space, an outlet, a paper filter you don't want to compost, and no plans to leave the kitchen. Steeping is a better way to make coffee everywhere else.
Steeping is what you do with tea. You put the leaves in water, you wait, you take them out. The variables you control are the same variables that matter in coffee: temperature, ratio, time. The variables you don't have to control are grind size, pour rate, bloom timing, or whether your paper filter is folded correctly.
We spent a year testing sachet designs — filter fiber, seal type, sachet size, grind. What we ended up with is what's in every Offline bag: a single-serve sachet you drop in a mug, cover with hot water, and pull out after four minutes.
It's not a compromise. It's what the coffee actually needs. Everything else was gear.
